Bay Area Philanthropy Groups Step Up For Disaster Relief

Foundation: California Community Foundation, Marin Community Foundation, Sacramento Region Community Foundation, Silicon Valley Community Foundation, San Francisco Foundation

The ongoing flooding in the San Francisco Bay Area has prompted a call for help from some of the region's biggest donors.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports seven community foundationsincluding the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, Sonoma County's Community Foundation, Marin County's Community Foundation, San Francisco's San Francisco Foundation, the East Bay's Community Foundation, Solano County's Community Foundation, and Santa Cruz County's Community Foundationhave teamed up to create a region-wide disaster relief fund.

"We know that disasters don't know county borders, which is why we've launched the Emergency and Disaster Fund by the SVCF," says Silicon Valley Community Foundation CEO Nicole Taylor.

"Our dollars will be smaller than public funds but fill a unique role in our ability to immediately respond and serve folks that won't be helped by public dollars," she adds.

"In the immediate crisis, we are trusted as a place where neighbors can help neighbors."
